Tuberculosis Reach project

IOM Nepal has been implementing a TB REACH project from October 2011 funded by WHO STOP TB Partnership TB REACH Initiative. The aim of the project is to increase early case detection of Tuberculosis through the use of GeneXpert, a molecular technology in Eastern Development Region of Nepal. A total of nine GeneXpert point of care instruments have been installed and are operational in nine strategically selected locations – seven in the project areas and, in request of National Tuberculosis Center (NTC), one each in NTC, Bhaktapur and in Parsa district of Central Development Region. So far, a total of 7,684 tests have been performed resulting in 1,500 Mycobacterium Tuberculosis cases detected, including 111 Rifampicin resistant cases in 2012. Rollover of the project for year 2 is awarded which will cover the period up to February 2014.
