TB REACH Project with GeneXpert

TB REACH Project with GeneXpert machines in 9 strategic locations in Eastern and Central Development Regions of Nepal 

IOM Nepal is implementing a TB REACH project from October 2011, funded by WHO STOP TB Partnership TB REACH Initiative. The aim of the project is to increase early case detection of Tuberculosis through the use of GeneXpert technology in Eastern Development Region of Nepal. A total nine GeneXpert point of care instruments have been installed and operational in nine strategically selected locations – 7 in the project area and, in request of NTC, one each in National Tuberculosis Center (NTC), Bhaktapur and in Parsa district. A total of 7,684 tests were performed detecting 1,500 Mycobacterium TB cases including 111 Rifampicin resistant cases in 2012. Rollover of the project for year 2 is awarded which covers the period from March 2013 to February 2014.
